Sharing Christ’s Love in the Slums of Mumbai

“Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind” (Luke 14: 21b, NKJV). That is exactly what missionaries from a ministry in Maharashtra state in India are doing. About 40 percent of Mumbai’s 19 million people live in slums where there is extreme deprivation, prostitution, and a high death rate. Since 1979, this ministry has reached out to the forsaken, addressing their spiritual as well as physical poverty. People are drawn to Christ as they learn of His unconditional and sacrificial love for them. More than 25 churches have been planted, with a total membership of over 6,500 people. The churches are located in Maharashtra and Andra Pradesh.
